🛠️ How I Built a Custom Shopify Popup Without Any Apps

When I launched Luis’s Locker, I didn’t just want a clothing brand — I wanted an experience. That meant every pixel, every click, and every scroll needed to feel on-brand. So when it came to collecting emails, I wasn’t feeling the generic, cookie-cutter newsletter bars at the bottom of the page.

And I definitely wasn’t about to pay $10–$20/month for a popup app.

So I built my own. 💻🔥

🚫 Why I Ditched the Default Newsletter Signup

 

The default Shopify newsletter bar was tucked away at the bottom of the page — easily missed. It didn’t match my vibe, didn’t let me customize animations, and worst of all… it didn’t convert.

I wanted something that:

• Looked clean
• Matched my branding
• Didn’t rely on external apps
• Could show right when someone landed on the site

⚙️ How I Did It (No App Required)

Here’s what I did:

1. Removed the default newsletter section
2. Wrote my own Liquid + HTML code
3. Styled it with custom CSS
4. Linked it to Shopify’s native email capture

I created a modal-style popup that:

• Shows after a few seconds
• Collects emails like normal
• Automatically hides once submitted
• Looks 100% like part of Luis’s Locker

📈 The Results

Once live, I saw:

• Higher signup conversions
• More control over the style
• No monthly cost
• A smoother, on-brand experience for visitors

Honestly, this might be one of the most underrated moves I made for the site.
